Dean's Office

The Dean's Office is responsible for administering the academic and budgetary facets of the Faculty.

The Dean has ultimate responsibility for the day-to-day functioning of the Faculty. Foremost among the Dean's tasks are working with Heads of the Faculty's departments and programs to decide how best to use the Faculty's resources; the recruitment and retention of new faculty members; the performance review of all members of the academic staff in the Faculty of Arts; and the representation of the Faculty to the University and the general community.

The Dean works very closely with the two Associate Deans of Arts on issues of teaching and research, and with the Faculty Administrator on issues of budget and space.

The Associate Dean (Research & Graduate Studies) oversees and assists external grant applications by Faculty Members, guides and strives to develop Faculty members' commitment to academic research, and has responsibility for all matters of curriculum development in the Faculty's graduate-level courses and programs.

The Associate Dean (Undergraduate) has responsibility for curriculum development in undergraduate courses and programs, oversees the Arts Student Services Office, and adjudicates disciplinary cases and procedural issues involving the Faculty's undergraduate students.

The Faculty Administrator supervises the Faculty's budgetary and space resources. She monitors accounts, tracks expenditures, supervises support staff throughout the Faculty, and works with Financial Services and Facilities Management on issues of budget, space, and equipment.
